Philosophy Colloquium Robert Stalnaker (MIT) Knowledge and Decision |
Philosophers, going back at least to Elizabeth Anscombe’s Intention, have distinguished knowledge by decision from inductive knowledge. I will discuss the role of the interaction of the two kinds of knowledge in deliberation. Among other things, I will criticize David Velleman’s claims that the distinction is not causal, but purely epistemic, and that the feeling of freedom that agents have when they act on their intentions is an illusion.
