While there seems to be agreement that we should aim to make syllabi more diverse and inclusive, not much by way of instruction on how to do so has been offered. Given the perceived importance of syllabus diversification to greater inclusion and diversity within philosophy, it would be wise to pay some more attention to how we go about doing so. In this talk, I aim to do just that. I will first discuss how I understand notions like ‘diversity,’ ‘inclusion,’ and ‘the canon.’ Next, I consider the question, “Why diversify?” I will then conclude with a brief summary of some models for diversification and their implications for conceptions of philosophy itself.
